Teaching your Baby to Walk

Your baby may be ready to learn to walk now.

Here's how you can motivate him or her
* Stand or kneel in front of your baby
* Hold both your baby's hands and let him or her walk towards you
* Let your baby walk towards you, either alone or with the aid of a stable push-toy that he or she can hold on to At this stage, it is best for your baby to be bare-foot - it helps improve balance and coordination Shoes can be introduced when your baby is ready to walk on rough surfaces or outside the home
A Word of Caution - The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly advices against the use of baby-walkers because they prevent the correct development of the upper leg muscles Baby-walkers also tend to provide babies the mobility and easy access to unsafe parts of the house
